Statement on the Political Paintings

In 2018, after completing several Trump Studies (see Menu), I felt an emotional urgency to respond to media coverage of certain political and social issues through my painting.  I choose specific events that I feel are significant enough to explore.  As these selected events expand and evolve and I find them to be overwhelmingly consequential, I begin to spend considerable time observing them, which ultimately leads to a period where I begin to research them in depth.  When, within this process of research, their importance to me become such that I find myself consumed by them, I have no choice but to respond to them with an artwork.  I call them political paintings but I'm not sure this is the proper title.
